There’s no specific LGBT quarter in Milan like you find in some other big European cities, as gay bars and clubs are located throughout many of Milan’s districts. Therefore we recommend you choose accommodation in the city centre, so you can enjoy the city on foot during the day, then by night travel to the best venues.
In terms of gaining entry into some of Milan’s gay bars, clubs and saunas, you’ll need to have an Arcigay card. These cost 15 Euros and are valid for a year, and you can buy them at the entrance of any venue where this is required.
So now your accommodation is sorted and you’ve got an Arcigay card in your pocket, it’s time to go out and discover the best LBGT places in Milan. Some of the most popular places are near the Porta Venezia metro stop, especially on Via Lecco Street, but Via Sammartini is also home to a number of bars and clubs.
The best gay bars and clubs in Milan
Milan has so many gay bars and clubs it’s impossible to review them all, but here are our favourite venues in the city:
Located in Lazzaretto, LeccoMilano is one of the best known gay bars in Milan. Every night is party night for the mixed crowd here, ranging from DJ sets, to live performances and karaoke. Open until 2am every night.
Just around the corner from LeccoMilano is MONO bar. The retro décor certainly has kitsch appeal, which helps to give this place a laid back atmosphere, with a mixed crowd from around the world. Also, the cocktails come highly recommended here. Open every night of the week until 1am, except Mondays.
As its name suggests, the colour palette of this club is…white. Located in Piazzale Lavater, this place is famous for its Milanese cocktails and mojitos, as well it’s lively DJ sets and party atmosphere. Open until 2am every night.
Plastic Club Milano
Something of a Milan institution and open since 1980, Plastic Club is considered the place to go on a Saturday night. Be warned, the doorman can be a bit sniffy about who they let in, but once inside you’re guaranteed a good night. Located on Via Gargano, Saturday night is the big one here, but it’s also open Fridays and Sundays.
Toilet Club Milan
“We’re all the same at toilet” is the philosophy of this club and not without good reason. Free of any dress code, this is the place to go if you want to meet people and get to know one another, as well as dance your arse off (in their own words!). Open Friday and Saturday nights and hosted in Q21 club in Via Padova.
But whilst Milan has plenty of options to keep the partying going all night, don’t neglect some of the sights that are best seen during daylight hours, such as the Milan Cathedral, Sforza Castle and Teatro alla Scala.
